Tour policy for Doe Library, Moffitt Library, and Main (Gardner) Stacks

Updated January 2025

The UC Berkeley Library conducts tours of Doe and Moffitt libraries and the Main (Gardner) Stacks at the start of the fall and spring semesters. Tour dates are announced on the UC Berkeley Library Events page each semester. UC Berkeley-affiliated groups can also request a tour by contacting coordinator David Galvez via email. These tours typically last about 50 minutes and begin at the north entrance of Doe Library. Groups are limited to 20 people; larger groups can be accommodated if an additional tour guide is available. Moffitt Library will be excluded from the tours until fall 2026, when it reopens after renovations.

Individual librarians and Library staff are welcome to lead visitors and guests through the libraries. Those wishing to visit Main Stacks may borrow a tour badge by emailing the coordinator. Tours should enter Main Stacks through the Doe entrance, where tour badges will be checked. Visitors to Main Stacks should be mindful of the quiet atmosphere, including by observing the Silent Study Area on Level B. Groups should be limited to 20 people, although larger groups are acceptable with the tour leader taking care to manage the noise volume of the attendees.

If you are an instructor, consider contacting your subject librarian directly to collaborate on introducing your students to the Library.
