“Shhh. It’s a library.”
It’s a widely held belief — that all libraries have to be hear-your-own-heartbeat quiet — but, at least at UC Berkeley, it’s not strictly true.
Many people have ideas about what libraries are, but as it turns out, there’s a lot that people don’t know.
Libraries are more than rooms full of books. (We carry everything from artifacts to artworks, pamphlets to papyri, and blue books to Blu-rays.) Libraries are also places where people can build their skills in writing, coding, sewing — you name it. And, yes, some libraries allow, and even encourage, conversation. (No shushing here.)
